I felt like this performance was sort of a '2 Steps forward, 1 Step back' kinda thing. The first week he had performed 'Father Figure,' (which despite all the mugging for the cameras, empty/vacant staring, and reaching out to that invisible person infront of him), was a pretty good vocal. You would think that a sensitive song like this would help with his smooth voice and elevate his status as the melodic sex symbol. But I found it very mellow. Too mellow. All he did was just stand there and deliver a 'good' but not 'great' performance. There were some parts that had its moments, and I especially like the little vocal curl at the very end. But DAMN IT, that Falsetto!!! UGH! He strained a few seconds before it, scrunched his face like he was trying to fart loudly on purpose, and the crowd went semi-wild. Am I the only one who has heard better? I feel like I'm not seeing what everybody else apparantly saw: AMAZING False. The performance as a whole was pretty lackluster. And I personally felt the falsetto didn't help. But he made it to the next round, so I obviously don't know what I'm talking about.
